Jaipur: In a tragic incident, a 20-year-old NEET aspirant from Uttar Pradesh reportedly took his own life in Kota, Rajasthan, as confirmed by the police on Thursday.

The deceased, Ashutosh Chaurasia from Mirzapur, was found hanging from a fan in his room located in the Dadabari police station area on Wednesday night. Authorities have informed Chaurasia’s family, and his body is currently in the mortuary pending a post-mortem examination, which will occur once family members arrive.

The situation came to light when Chaurasia’s relatives, unable to reach him, contacted the owner of his paying guest accommodation. After receiving no response when the owner knocked on his door, the police were notified.

Upon their arrival around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, officers forced open the door and discovered Chaurasia hanging. Investigations are ongoing to determine the reasons behind his tragic decision.

Kota has seen a concerning rise in student suicides, with 29 reported last year and over 15 already this year by September. Previously, in September, a 21-year-old NEET aspirant named Parshuram from Barsana, Uttar Pradesh, also died by suicide just a week after arriving in Kota for his studies.

The authorities in Kota are facing significant challenges in addressing the increasing incidents of suicide among students in this prominent coaching hub.
