AAP names four candidates for Assembly bypolls in Punjab

Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced its candidates for the upcoming bypolls in four Punjab Assembly constituencies, set for November 13. Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, who recently left the Shiromani Akali Dal to join AAP, will contest from Gidderbaha. His induction into AAP was overseen by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann. Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) announced its candidates for the upcoming bypolls in four Punjab Assembly constituencies, set for November 13.

Hardeep Singh Dimpy Dhillon, who recently left the Shiromani Akali Dal to join AAP, will contest from Gidderbaha. His induction into AAP was overseen by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

From Barnala, Harinder Singh Dhaliwal will run, and Gurdeep Singh Randhawa is the candidate for Dera Baba Nanak. Dhaliwal is known to be a close associate of Sangrur MP Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer, while Randhawa serves as the constituency in-charge for Dera Baba Nanak.

Ishaan Chabbewal will represent AAP for the Chabbewal seat.

These four Assembly constituencies were vacated following the election of their MLAs to the Lok Sabha this year, with three previously held by Congress and one by AAP. Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, the Congress MLA from Gidderbaha, was elected to the Lok Sabha seat in Ludhiana, while Raj Kumar Chabbewal, another Congress MLA who switched to AAP, became MP for Hoshiarpur. Additionally, Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, the Congress legislator from Dera Baba Nanak, won the Gurdaspur parliamentary seat, and AAP’s Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer was elected from Sangrur.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) declared on October 15 that the by-elections for these four Assembly seats will take place on November 13.

Punjab’s Chief Electoral Officer, Sibin C., announced that the deadline for filing nominations is October 25, with scrutiny scheduled for October 28. Candidates can withdraw their nominations until October 30.

Voting is set for November 13, and results will be released on November 23.

Sibin C. mentioned that the total electorate across the four constituencies is 696,316, with 831 polling stations established. Dera Baba Nanak has 193,268 voters across 241 polling stations; Chabbewal has 159,254 voters and 205 polling stations; Gidderbaha has 166,489 voters with 173 polling stations; and Barnala has 177,305 voters in 212 polling stations.
