Shimla: The work of demolishing the illegal part of Sanjauli Mosque has started in Himachal Pradesh’s capital Shimla. On October 5, the Municipal Corporation Commissioner ordered the demolition of the upper three floors of the mosque which were built illegaly.

The Sanjauli Mosque Committee has been asked to carry out this demolition work at its own expense. After obtaining permission from the Waqf Board, the mosque committee has started the work of demolishing the illegal part today.

This mosque was built before 1947 when it used to have 2 floors. After this, 3 more floors were built in it, which are claimed as illegal. A case was going on against it in the Municipal Commissioner’s court for 14 years.

This matter came into the limelight on September 1, when a protest started outside the mosque after a fight between 2 communities. Local residents alleged that outsiders peep into their houses from the illegal floors of the mosque. At the same time, this matter is also to be heard in the Himachal High Court. Local people have filed this petition.
