Now the Akal Takht Sahib Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh has refused to give an exemption to Sukhbir Singh Badal to participate in political activities during by-elections.

By-elections in Punjab will be held on November 13. All major parties except SAD have announced their candidates. SAD leaders are conducting meetings to finalize the names for four seats. Amid this, Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh denied permission to Sukhbir Badal to contest elections. Sukhbir Badal is also not allowed to take part in the political activities during the upcoming elections.

Reports suggested that Sukhbir Badal was inclined to contest the by-poll from Gidderbaha. Inclination towards Gidderbaha can be understood by the fact that the seat had been represented by Prakash Singh Badal for five consecutive terms from 1969-1985.

On August 30, Akal Takht pronounced Sukhbir Singh Badal ‘Tankhaiya’ for decisions made between 2007 and 2017 when the Akali Dal was in power in the state and held guilty for religious misconduct.

Earlier a delegation of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) on Tuesday approached Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh and sought his nod for letting the party contest the upcoming Assembly bypoll under the guardianship of Sukhbir Singh Badal. The delegation comprised of SAD working president Balwinder Singh Bhunder, chief spokesperson Arshdeep Singh Kler, and former ministers Daljit Singh Cheema, Gulzar Singh Ranike, Maheshinder Singh Garewal and Janmeja Singh Sekhon held a closed-door meeting with the Jathedar and Giani Raghbir Singh had, however, reserved his verdict.

Today, it is being reported that Giani Raghbir Singh has denied permission to Sukhbir Singh Badal to contest elections as well as refused to give exemption to participate in political activities during by-elections.
