The Congress party has announced its candidates for by-elections in seven assembly seats in Rajasthan. The list, released by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) late Wednesday, includes Amit Ola, the son of sitting Congress MP Brijendra Ola, who will contest from Jhunjhunu. Aryaan Khan has been nominated for the Ramgarh seat, which became vacant following the death of his father, Zubair Khan.

Deendayal Bairwa has been announced as the candidate from Dausa. Other candidates include Kastoor Chand Meena from Deoli-Uniara, Ratan Choudhary from Khinvsar, Mahesh Roat from Chorasi, and Reshma Meena from Salumbar. Unlike in the Lok Sabha elections, the Congress is not aligning with any regional parties for these by-elections.

The BJP has already declared its candidates for six of the seven seats, with the Chorasi seat still pending a candidate announcement. The deadline for filing nominations is set for October 25. Voting for the seven assembly seats — Jhunjhunu, Dausa, Deoli-Uniara, Khinvsar, Chorasi, Salumbar, and Ramgarh — will take place on November 13, and results will be declared on November 23.

Among the seven seats, four were previously held by the Congress, while one each was held by the BJP and the Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) and the Rashtriya Loktantrik Party (RLP). Two seats are up for by-election due to the deaths of the sitting MLAs: Congress’s Zubair Khan from Ramgarh and BJP’s Amritlal Meena from Salumbar. The remaining five constituencies required by-elections because the MLAs were elected as MPs during the recent Lok Sabha elections. These include Congress MLAs Brijendra Ola (Jhunjhunu), Harish Chandra Meena (Deoli-Uniara), Murari Lal Meena (Dausa), RLP’s Hanuman Beniwal (Khinvsar), and BAP’s Rajkumar Roat (Chorasi).

Currently, the Rajasthan assembly, which has 200 seats, consists of 114 BJP MLAs, 65 Congress MLAs, three from the Bharat Adivasi Party, two from the BSP, one from the RLD, and eight Independent MLAs.
