On Friday, Mumbai police apprehended an additional suspect linked to the murder of veteran Maharashtra politician Baba Siddique. The individual, Surjeet Sushil Singh, was arrested in a cooperative operation between the police forces of Mumbai and Punjab in Ludhiana, Punjab.

Authorities stated that Singh was implicated in the plot to assassinate Baba Siddique, a leader of the Nationalist Congress Party. Punjab police chief Gaurav Yadav announced the operation on Twitter, calling it a significant development in the investigation. He mentioned, “In a major breakthrough, Mumbai Police, in collaboration with Punjab Police, has arrested Sujeet Sushil Singh, a Mumbai resident, sought in the high-profile murder of Baba Siddique.”

Yadav revealed that Singh was aware of the murder plan three days in advance, communicated by another suspect, Nitin Gautan (Gautam) Sapre. Singh reportedly played a crucial role in providing logistical support for the shooters and has been transferred to Mumbai Police for further inquiry.

Investigators also noted that Singh was connected to Zeeshan Akhtar, one of the alleged masterminds of the murder, and that he provided funding for the assailants. Akhtar remains at large.

With Singh’s arrest, Punjab police have now captured a total of 15 individuals in relation to the assassination of Siddique, who had strong connections with Bollywood figures. Reports suggest that Siddique and his son, Zeeshan, were targeted by the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang due to their association with actor Salman Khan, who is reportedly on the gang’s hitlist for allegedly hunting a blackbuck.
