The United Arab Emirates has assumed the Presidency of the Arab Parliament following a procedural session of the fourth legislative term held today, Saturday, at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo, Egypt. Mohammed Ahmad Al Yamahi, a member of the Federal National Council (FNC), has been elected as the President of the Parliament.
The UAE, represented by the FNC Parliamentary Division, previously held the presidency of the Arab Parliament for two consecutive terms from 2012 to 2016, reflecting the significant impact of Emirati parliamentary diplomacy and its contributions to the Arab Parliament’s activities since its establishment.
In his statement, Al Yamahi expressed his appreciation for the considerable support from the UAE’s leadership, including President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and Vice President and Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He noted that their support has enabled Emiratis to secure influential roles in Arab, regional, and international organizations. Al Yamahi highlighted that this achievement further enhances the UAE’s distinguished record under its leadership.
At the level of the FNC Parliamentary Division, the UAE was elected Deputy President of the Arab Parliament in 2020. Additionally, members of the FNC Parliamentary Division have chaired the Committees on Financial and Economic Affairs and on Social, Educational, Cultural, Women, and Youth Affairs.
