Bhulai Bhai, the oldest member of the BJP and a two-time MLA from the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, has passed away at the age of 111 after a prolonged illness. He gained attention during the Covid-19 pandemic when Prime Minister Narendra Modi inquired about his health.
Known as Shri Narayan, Bhulai Bhai had been receiving oxygen support at his home in Pagaar village, located in Uttar Pradesh’s Kushinagar district, due to age-related health issues. His family took him to a hospital in Kaptanganj when his condition worsened on Monday, but he unfortunately died while undergoing treatment.
Bhulai Bhai entered politics after being inspired by Jana Sangh leader Deendayal Upadhyaya. He was elected as a two-time Jana Sangh MLA from the Naurangia constituency in 1974. Throughout his political career, he was known for his integrity and dedication. Even after the formation of the BJP in 1980, he remained a devoted party worker.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Bhulai Bhai became notable when PM Modi reached out to check on him. Later, at a BJP workers’ conference in Lucknow, Union Home Minister Amit Shah honored him in person. When Yogi Adityanath was re-elected as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 2022, Bhulai Bhai attended the swearing-in ceremony as a special guest. Recently, Yogi Adityanath had also called to inquire about his health.
