India’s October coal production surges to 84.5 million tonnes

In October, India’s coal production totaled 84.45 million tonnes, reflecting a 7.48 percent increase from 78.57 million tonnes in the same month the previous year, as reported by the Ministry of Coal. Captive and other entities also reported strong performance, producing 16.59 million tonnes in October, a significant rise from last year’s 11.70 million tonnes,.

In October, India’s coal production totaled 84.45 million tonnes, reflecting a 7.48 percent increase from 78.57 million tonnes in the same month the previous year, as reported by the Ministry of Coal.

Captive and other entities also reported strong performance, producing 16.59 million tonnes in October, a significant rise from last year’s 11.70 million tonnes, equating to a growth rate of 41.75 percent.

For the fiscal year ending October 2024, total coal production reached 537.45 million tonnes, representing a 6.10 percent increase from 506.56 million tonnes during the same timeframe in 2023-24. There was also a notable increase in coal dispatches, with October 2024 figures at 82.89 million tonnes—a 4.60 percent rise from the 79.25 million tonnes seen in October 2023.

The Ministry highlighted a similar trend in coal dispatches from captive and other entities, which reached 16.18 million tonnes in October 2024, marking a 36.83 percent increase from 11.83 million tonnes in October 2023. Additionally, cumulative coal dispatches from April to October 2024 rose to 571.39 million tonnes, representing a 5.52 percent increase compared to the same period last year.
