In Bangladesh, the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has demanded that Mahmudur Rahman, the editor of Amar Desh, apologize to the nation within a week following his “controversial and unfounded” comments about the organization. ISKCON leaders have indicated that they may pursue legal action against him if he does not comply.

During a press conference titled “Protest Against Misleading and Baseless Statements and News Regarding ISKCON,” held at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) on Saturday, ISKCON representatives voiced their concerns over Rahman’s statements.

Sree Charu Chandra Das Brahmachari, the general secretary of ISKCON Bangladesh, issued a written statement expressing deep concern over the false accusations and calls for a ban on the organization. He highlighted that Rahman labeled ISKCON as a militant group and claimed it was linked to an intelligence agency, as well as associating it with the Chhatra League. Brahmachari insisted that Rahman must provide evidence for these allegations or issue an apology. He emphasized that ISKCON is dedicated to promoting Hinduism globally and is not affiliated with any intelligence agency.

Brahmachari argued that Rahman’s remarks not only damage ISKCON’s reputation but also threaten the religious harmony, tolerance, and social unity in Bangladesh. He stated that if Rahman retracts his statements and offers a public apology, they would commend him; otherwise, they would take strict measures, including legal action.

He also noted that various groups have been spreading rumors about ISKCON, both directly and indirectly, as reported by Daily Observer, a prominent newspaper in Bangladesh. He clarified that recent allegations regarding the desecration of the national flag are completely false, as ISKCON does not possess its own flag, and the one mentioned has no connection to the organization.

Brahmachari reiterated that ISKCON is an apolitical international religious group that promotes humanitarian values and religious tolerance, advocating for national harmony and unity. He called on the Bangladeshi government to take action against such baseless propaganda and to support peaceful coexistence among all religions and communities, as reported by Daily Observer.
