Himachal government is preparing to provide e-rickshaws to all 3,615 panchayats of the state. These e-rickshaws will collect garbage from every house. Under Swachh Bharat Mission Gramin Phase-1, the process of purchasing e-rickshaws for 80 panchayats of lower areas has been started. The government has handed over the responsibility of purchase to Electronic Development Corporation. The standards of purchase have been fixed with the cooperation of the Transport Department. Compost manure will be prepared from the garbage collected from the houses.

The Panchayats will earn by selling this manure and this money will also be spent on development works. With the aim of making Himachal a green state, the government has decided to purchase e-rickshaws for the panchayats. In view of the different geographical conditions of the panchayats in the state, the Panchayati Raj Department has fixed standards and technical specifications for the purchase of e-rickshaws with the cooperation of the Transport Department. There is also a plan to build solid and liquid waste management centers at the Panchayat level. Cabins will be built on the e-rickshaws to collect dry and wet garbage separately.

Panchayati Raj Minister Aniruddh Singh said that compost manure will be made from the waste by sorting it at the waste management center. The money received after sorting iron, metal, glass, plastic etc. and selling compost manure will be deposited in the bank account of the Panchayat and the associates employed under the scheme will be given honorarium.
