Nitesh Rane, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate from Kankavli, criticized the Congress party on Thursday, alleging that they have plagiarized the BJP-Mahayuti manifesto. He branded Congress as anti-Hindu and referred to it as the ‘B-team’ of the Muslim League. Rane claimed that while Congress makes numerous promises before elections, it often cites budget constraints once in power.
In an interview, Rane pointed out the similarities between the Congress manifesto and that of the BJP and Mahayuti, urging Rahul Gandhi to explain how many promises the Congress government in Karnataka and other states controlled by the party has actually delivered on. He stated, “Congress makes guarantees before the election but claims there’s no budget after taking power. Their false promises won’t succeed here.”
As the Maharashtra Assembly elections draw near, campaign activities are intensifying across the state. The opposition coalition, comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (SCP), aims to seize power from the ruling Mahayuti alliance, which consists of Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena, the BJP, and the Ajit Pawar-led NCP.
The upcoming election in Baramati will see a notable family rivalry, as NCP leader Ajit Pawar faces his nephew, Yugendra Pawar, the son of Ajit Pawar’s younger brother. Baramati previously witnessed a significant contest during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections when Sunetra Pawar ran against Supriya Sule, who won the election by a margin of 150,000 votes.
The Maharashtra Assembly elections are scheduled for November 20, and the results for all 288 constituencies will be announced on November 23. In the previous state elections in 2019, the BJP secured 105 seats, the Shiv Sena won 56, and the Congress obtained 44. In 2014, the BJP had a stronger performance with 122 seats, while the Shiv Sena and Congress captured 63 and 42 seats, respectively.
