New Delhi: On November 15, in a significant clampdown on drug trafficking, the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) collaborated in an operation in Porbandar that resulted in the confiscation of 500 kilograms of illegal drugs.
The operation commenced late on Thursday night along Porbandar beach and continued into the early hours of Friday. Officials stated that the NCB’s team in Delhi acted on intelligence indicating a boat carrying a substantial amount of drugs was approaching the Porbandar coast. Promptly responding to this crucial information, security forces intercepted the vessel and seized the drugs.
The estimated value of the drugs is in the crores, underscoring the advanced tactics used by traffickers to smuggle illegal substances. Investigations are now in progress to trace the origins of the shipment, identify the intended recipients, and uncover the larger network involved in this illicit trade. Authorities are ramping up efforts to pinpoint the source and key figures behind this operation.
This recent incident is part of a trend in Gujarat, which has seen an increase in drug-related activities, especially along its coastal areas. Porbandar, Dwarka, and Gir Somnath have frequently been the sites of significant drug seizures.
Notably, on October 14, a joint operation conducted by the Delhi Police and Gujarat Police resulted in the recovery of Colombian cocaine valued at approximately Rs 6,000 crore from a pharmaceutical company in Gujarat. This operation was linked to the dismantling of an international drug network in Delhi just weeks prior, which similarly involved the seizure of around 500 kilograms of cocaine, marking one of the largest drug busts in recent years.
