Authorities in Hyderabad have initiated the demolition of a four-storey building that unexpectedly tilted, causing panic in the vicinity. The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA), in collaboration with Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and other agencies, is carrying out the demolition in Siddiq Nagar, located in the Gachibowli area.
Before starting the demolition, officials evacuated neighboring homes to ensure the safety of residents. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the building suddenly tilted, prompting residents to flee. Iqbal Hussain, a man who jumped from the third floor to escape, sustained severe injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.
Emergency services, including police and teams from HYDRAA, GHMC, and the Revenue Department, quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and maintain safety. Due to the darkness, they postponed plans to evaluate the building’s structural stability and cordoned off the area, instructing residents to keep their distance.
Following a Wednesday inspection, officials decided to proceed with the demolition, deploying personnel and equipment to expedite the process, which is expected to be completed by the end of the day.
The building is believed to have tilted due to excavation activities for a cellar on an adjacent plot, prompting residents to blame the builder responsible for that work. Swapna, the owner of the tilted building, has called for compensation from the builder, expressing concern that the demolition of her family’s building, constructed on previously sold agricultural land, would lead to significant hardship. Meanwhile, municipal officials are investigating whether the building’s construction received the necessary permits.
This incident is part of ongoing efforts by the newly established HYDRAA to dismantle unauthorized structures throughout Hyderabad.
