The Delhi-Darbhanga Special Train (number 04068) derailed at Harinagar railway station in West Champaran, Bihar, early Thursday morning, with no reported casualties. The derailment occurred as the train was entering track No. 4, causing four wheels of coach number 153735/GSLRD to come off the rails. Although this caused panic among passengers, all remained unharmed.
Following the incident, the downline was temporarily closed, while the upline continued to function. The derailed coach was successfully removed, allowing the train to resume its journey to Darbhanga around 4 a.m., after a delay of roughly four hours.
Officials from the Samastipur Railway Division confirmed the derailment, emphasizing that no passengers sustained injuries. The incident involved one of the train’s 21 coaches, and although the train was stationary for a time, passengers experienced some anxiety.
Station Master Ritesh Kumar remarked that the reduced speed of the train helped prevent a more serious accident, stating, “The Delhi-Darbhanga Special Train derailed at Harinagar railway station. Four wheels of a bogie derailed. However, all passengers are safe. If the speed of the train had not been reduced, a major accident could have occurred.”
In response to the derailment, the Samastipur Railway Division has established a team to conduct an investigation. This inquiry will examine whether the track was damaged or compromised prior to the train’s arrival, as well as whether proper inspections were carried out beforehand. The goal is to ascertain the cause of the derailment and enhance safety measures to avoid similar incidents in the future.
