Maryland [US]: Nissin Rubin, a Jewish Indian-American, expressed his heartfelt appreciation for India’s historical harmony and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s role in highlighting the country’s ancient connections with the Jewish community. Speaking at the launch of the Association of Indian American Minorities (AIAM) in Maryland on Friday, Rubin noted India’s unique legacy of providing safety and acceptance to its Jewish minority for over two millennia.

“I’m from Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where we proudly state that India is the only country in the world with no history of anti-Semitism in its 2,000-year history. This fact has not been widely recognized in the West, but it is gaining attention thanks to Prime Minister Modi’s speeches. While the relationship with Israel is relatively recent, having developed over the last thirty years, our ties with the Jewish people are ancient,” Rubin remarked.

He commended India for its long-standing inclusivity, citing examples of interfaith cooperation. “What is often overlooked is that the majority of students at our 120-year-old Jewish girls’ school in Calcutta and the two Sassoon schools in Mumbai are Muslim. Even during times of significant violence in the Middle East, not a single stone was thrown at these schools, which are situated within Jewish synagogue compounds in Calcutta and Mumbai. These schools are located in Muslim-majority areas, demonstrating the resilience and harmony of the Indian people,” he said.

Rubin also stressed the need for collaborative efforts toward global peace, expressing hope for a strong partnership among the United States, India, the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and other allies to promote a free, stable, prosperous, and secure Middle East.

The AIAM, a newly formed non-governmental organization, was launched at the Sligo Seventh-day Adventist Church in Maryland. Its mission is to unite and advocate for the welfare of minority communities within the Indian American diaspora. During the event, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was honored posthumously with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Global Peace Award for Minority Upliftment, presented jointly by Washington Adventist University and AIAM, recognizing his contributions to inclusive development and minority welfare.
