New Delhi: An individual suspected of murdering a policeman was apprehended just hours after the incident occurred. Police constable Kiran Pal was fatally stabbed early Saturday morning around 5 a.m. in southeast Delhi.
Following the attack, police quickly assembled a team to track down the suspect, enlisting help from both the Crime Branch and the Special Cell of the Delhi Police. Constable Kiran Pal, originally from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, had been with the Delhi Police since 2018 and was assigned to the Govindpuri police station in March after previously serving at the Kishangarh station. He is survived by his mother, elder brother, and sister-in-law.
According to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Sanjay Sain, Pal was on patrol duty when he stopped three individuals riding a scooter. CCTV footage from the area was reviewed, and intelligence led to the identification of the suspect.
Around six hours post-incident, the accused was found in a flat in Kalkaji, where he fired at the police during the arrest. Officers returned fire in self-defense, wounding the suspect in the leg before taking him into custody.
The police, along with Delhi Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora, paid their respects to Constable Kiran Pal by receiving his body from the hospital. This tragic event followed a meeting between Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Delhi Police Commissioner, aimed at assessing the city’s law and order situation.
