Uttar Pradesh: On Sunday morning, a survey team arrived at the Shahi Jama Masjid in Sambhal district but faced stone-pelting from some “anti-social elements,” according to police reports. In response to the situation, police utilized tear gas to restore order in the area.

Director General of Police (DGP) UP, Prashant Kumar, stated that the situation has since been brought under control. In an interview with ANI, he explained, “A survey is being conducted in Sambhal following a court order. Some anti-social individuals threw stones. Police and senior officials are on-site, and the situation is stable. We will identify those responsible for the stone-pelting and take appropriate legal measures.”

This survey is part of a legal process initiated by senior advocate Vishnu Shanker Jain, who claims the mosque was originally a temple. A similar survey took place on November 19, with local police and members of the mosque’s management committee overseeing the process. After the incident, police urged the local community in Sambhal to refrain from throwing stones when the survey team visited Shahi Jama Masjid.
