Hyderabad: Three individuals, including a couple from Andhra Pradesh, were arrested by Hyderabad police for kidnapping a month-old baby boy from the government-run Niloufer Hospital. Fortunately, the baby was safely returned to his family after being taken to Jogu Lamba Gadwal district, where the kidnappers were apprehended as they tried to flee to Andhra Pradesh.

The couple, from Anantapur district, acted out of desperation for a male child. The kidnapping occurred on Saturday when a woman, dressed in a burka, approached the baby’s mother, Haseena Begum, and her mother to offer assistance with discharge paperwork at the Aarogya Shree ward. While they were distracted, she managed to take the infant and escape.

Haseena, 27, had recently given birth on October 25 but brought her newborn to the Niloufer Hospital for treatment of jaundice. After the kidnapping, she promptly reported the incident to the Nampally Police Station, prompting a swift response with multiple teams deployed to locate the baby.

Using CCTV footage, police tracked the suspects heading towards Kurnool on National Highway 44. They coordinated with local law enforcement to intercept the vehicle at Pullur Toll Plaza. The kidnappers, identified as Shaheen Begum, Abdulla (also known as Venkatesh), and his wife Reshma (also known as Renuka), were found with the baby after confirming his identity with Haseena.

Abdulla and Reshma, married since 2009, were worried about having another daughter, as they already had three girls. With Reshma eight months pregnant, they and Shaheen, Reshma’s sister, devised the kidnapping plan, which was executed when Shaheen took the child while Abdulla waited nearby.
