Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Police conducted a thorough security assessment of the Shiv Khori Temple in Reasi district on Monday, given the heavy daily influx of pilgrims.
This review follows a tragic incident on June 9 when a terrorist attack on a bus carrying pilgrims resulted in nine fatalities and injuries to 40 others, including women and children. The bus lost control and fell into a gorge during the attack.
SSP Reasi, Paramvir Singh, led the security review, focusing on the temple and surrounding areas to ensure the safety of those visiting. Measures were implemented for crowd control and enhanced security along the route to the temple.
The reviewing officer emphasized the importance of vigilance against potential threats from anti-national and anti-social entities. Police and CRPF personnel assigned to the area received specific directives to enhance security.
SSP Singh also engaged in discussions with commanders of the Road Opening Parties (ROPs) responsible for safeguarding the path from Pouni village to Randoo.
As a precautionary step, local police were instructed to verify the backgrounds of migrants, pony wallahs, porters, and other workers. They also advised accommodations and hotel owners to authenticate the credentials of their guests.
Furthermore, authorities have been directed to monitor social media to counter radicalization and are actively participating in ongoing search operations in the Pouni-Ransoo region led by security forces.
