Patna: A tragic incident in Bhagalpur district, Bihar, resulted in the deaths of a father and his son after two LPG cylinders exploded at a restaurant early Monday morning.
The victims, Kishan Kumar Jhunjhunwala and his son Prasun Jhunjhunwala, also known as Kanhaiya, attempted to put out the fire when the cylinders detonated. The explosion occurred around 5 a.m. near Nagarmal mall in the Kharmanchak area, under Jogsar police station, causing panic among local residents.
Both individuals suffered severe injuries and were taken to Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital in Bhagalpur, where they later died from their injuries.
CCTV footage captured the rapid escalation of the fire, showing thick smoke and flames emerging from the restaurant. Local youths attempted to help, but the fire spread too quickly for them to make a difference.
Authorities suspect that a short circuit may have ignited the blaze, which broke out during a time when many residents were out for their morning walks. Eyewitness Sudhir Kumar recounted seeing the fire and witnessing two powerful explosions that propelled one person approximately 20 feet away from the restaurant.
The community is now expressing deep concern over fire safety measures in the area. The police are investigating the cause of the fire and assessing the damage. The bodies of the deceased have been recovered and sent for post-mortem examinations, with further inquiries underway, according to a Jogsar police officer.
