Kullu: Farmers and laborers protest against the central government, demand to fulfill promises

CITU State Secretary Hotam Sokhla said that the aim of the central government is to enrich the corporate and the super rich.

Workers and farmers held a sit-in protest under the banner of CITU and Himachal Kisan Sabha at the district headquarters of Kullu on Tuesday. During this, slogans were raised against the central government. Kisan Sabha State Secretary Hotam Sokhla said that such demonstrations were held across the country. The farmers’ movement started four years ago on November 26. The government had made some promises to the farmers, none of which have been fulfilled. This demonstration has been done to remind the government of the promises.

44 labor laws have been abolished and four new laws have been brought, which are anti-labor. He said that the exploitation of laborers across the country and their demands are being ignored by the government. On this issue, a fury rally was taken out by CITU and other labor organizations in Dhalpur, the headquarters of District Kullu, and a memorandum was also sent to the President through the DC.

Addressing the laborers present during this, CITU State Secretary Hotam Sokhla said that the aim of the central government is to enrich the corporate and the super rich. He said that now a 12-point demand letter has been sent to the central government, in which demands have been made that MSP should be given according to C2 50% with legally guaranteed procurement for laborers, farmers and all crops. Repeal the four labor codes and end outsourcing and contracting of labor.

At the same time, implement a national minimum wage of Rs 26,000 per month and pension of Rs 10,000 per month, as social security benefits for all laborers including organized, unorganized, scheme workers and contract laborers, and the agricultural sector. Hotam Sokhla said that to end farmer suicides, comprehensive debt relief, privatization of public sector undertakings and public services including defense, railways, health, education, electricity should be stopped. At the same time, the National Monetization Pipeline (NMP) should be abolished and prepaid smart meters should be abolished. Free electricity for agricultural pumps, 300 units of free electricity should be given to domestic users and shops.
