Bengaluru: The investigation into the murder of Assam-based vlogger Maya Gogoi, allegedly by her boyfriend Aarav Hanoy, has revealed that he spent two days with her corpse in a service apartment in Bengaluru, according to police sources. The shocking discovery was made within the jurisdiction of the Indiranagar police station on Tuesday.
Reports indicate that after killing Maya, Aarav remained in the apartment for two days, primarily smoking cigarettes while sitting near her body. The police have formed two teams to locate him, as his phone is currently turned off, and they are searching for him in Kerala and other areas.
After leaving the service apartment, Aarav took a taxi to the Majestic area in Bengaluru and disabled his phone. Maya, who lived with her sister in HSR Layout, had informed her sister that she would not be returning home on Friday due to an office party. She later sent another message on Saturday, stating she would be out partying again that night.
Maya’s sister reported to the police that the couple had been in a relationship for six months after meeting on social media. They had checked into the service apartment on Saturday, and initial investigations suggest that Aarav brought a knife with him and had purchased a nylon rope online. Following their time together, he allegedly stabbed Maya to death.
The police have obtained CCTV footage and details about the cab he used, confirming he left the apartment at 8:19 A.M. on Tuesday. Initially thought to have spent one day with the corpse, it is now believed he was with her body for two days, with the murder likely occurring around midnight on Sunday.
Maya was employed at a private firm, and police have collected footage of her and Aarav entering the apartment on November 23. Investigators are also exploring whether Aarav intended to dismember the body for transport, as he spent significant time with it.
CCTV footage has shown no one else entering the apartment between November 23 and November 26. An official statement from the police department is still pending.
This incident follows another gruesome case in Bengaluru, where Mahalaxmi, a single working woman, was murdered by her lover in September. The accused, Mukthiranjan Roy, later committed suicide by hanging himself from a tree in Odisha’s Bhadrak district.
