Chandigarh: The first meeting of the newly elected Panchayats in Punjab will be held by December 1. The meetings will also be videographed at all places. Orders have been issued by the Panchayat Department in this regard. However, there will be no Panchayat meetings in four districts Barnala, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur and Muktsar.
Since the code of conduct was in force here due to the assembly by-election, the Sarpanchs and Panchs could not be sworn in four districts. The department will now organize the oath ceremony in the coming days.
The order issued by the Panchayat Department states that the tenure of five years is considered from the first meeting of the Panchayats. In such a situation, the department has made it clear that there should be no delay in the meeting. At the same time, the Additional Secretary has said in the order that the elected Sarpanchs will be given charge of records and property without any delay.
If there is a delay in the Panchayats getting their charge, then the DDPO will be responsible for this. At the same time, disciplinary action will be taken against them.
