Assam: On November 29, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Central government has sanctioned Rs 200 crore for the development of two major tourist attractions in the state: Rang Ghar and the State Zoo. Sarma expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for this special assistance, which is part of a broader initiative to boost capital investment in the states.

The announcement came amid the ongoing 12th edition of the International Tourism Mart (ITM), which was inaugurated in Kaziranga by Union Minister of Culture and Tourism, Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, in the presence of Chief Minister Sarma and Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu. Sarma noted that hosting the ITM for the third time in the region was a great honor, and he emphasized that the event would highlight the Northeast’s rich cultural, artistic, and historical heritage.

He also mentioned the Prime Minister’s visit to Kaziranga, where he experienced its unique biodiversity, including the famous one-horned rhinoceros. Sarma highlighted the recognition of Charaideo Maidam as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, calling it a significant achievement for Assam, reflecting the region’s historical importance, particularly during the Ahom dynasty. This recognition, according to Sarma, was a testament to the combined efforts of Prime Minister Modi and the Union Minister of Culture and Tourism.
