Recently, five illegal Bangladeshi migrants—one in Kolkata and four in Nadia—were arrested, all of whom possessed counterfeit Indian identity documents linked to that district.

One of the individuals detained in Kolkata, Selim Matabbar (also known as Safiq Sardar), not only acquired a fake Indian passport under the name Ravi Sharma but also has prior affiliations with the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).

The connection of these fake documents to Nadia has led investigators to review records of Bangladeshi infiltrators apprehended in the district over the past few years. They have also requested information from local police regarding cases involving agents implicated in producing such counterfeit identities.

On the same day as Selim’s arrest, police in Nadia detained four other Bangladeshi infiltrators—Sumi Akhtar, Iman Biswas, Shankar Biswas, and Rupkumar Biswas—in the Mazdia area under Krishnaganj Police Station. One of the detained individuals had even secured a job at a hotel in Kolkata’s Park Street, using his false identity before being apprehended on November 30. Investigators are also probing the extent of his connections to the BNP prior to his illegal entry into India.
