Sambhal: Over a week after violence erupted in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district due to a court-mandated survey of a Mughal-era mosque, authorities have discovered two US-made bullet cartridges at the scene.

On Thursday, a forensic team investigating the violence site seized four empty cartridges, with two identified as manufactured in the United States, according to police reports. This discovery follows the earlier finding of six empty cartridges, five of which were reportedly made in Pakistan.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Krishan Kumar Vishnoi informed the media that the forensic team conducted an investigation at the site on Thursday and sent all four cartridges for forensic analysis. “Two of the cartridges are marked ‘Made in the US,'” he stated.

The unrest in Sambhal began on November 24 during the second phase of the survey of the Shahi Jama Masjid, which was ordered by a local court in response to claims that the mosque was constructed by Mughal emperor Babur after the demolition of a temple. The violence resulted in the deaths of four individuals and injuries to numerous others, including police and administrative officials, as a mob attacked the police and survey team.

On Thursday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath drew a controversial comparison between Ayodhya, Sambhal, and Bangladesh, stating, “500 years ago, a general of Babur committed certain deeds in Ayodhya, similar acts in Sambhal, and what is happening today in Bangladesh. The nature and DNA of all three are the same.”

In response, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav suggested that the Chief Minister should undergo a DNA test before making such statements.
