SGPC office bearers meet Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh, demands expulsion of Narain Singh from Sikh Panth

The SGPC representatives, including Junior Vice President Baldev Singh Kalyan and other key members, expressed their deep distress and mental anguish over the incident.

Amritsar: The members of the interim committee of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) met Jathedar Giani Harpreet Singh, Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib, and requested the expulsion of Narain Singh from the Sikh Panth. This demand came in light of an incident on December 4, 2024, in which Narain Singh attacked Sukhbir Singh Badal and fired shots at the entrance of Sachkhand Sri Harmandir Sahib (Golden Temple).

The SGPC representatives, including Junior Vice President Baldev Singh Kalyan and other key members, expressed their deep distress and mental anguish over the incident.

They condemned the attack as an affront to the sanctity of the holy site, which is revered by millions of Sikhs and devotees worldwide. They noted that this attack not only violated the directives of Sri Akal Takht Sahib but also desecrated the spiritual integrity of the central religious institution of the Sikhs.

In their letter to Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the SGPC officials emphasized that the Golden Temple is a place where people seek spiritual peace and inner fulfillment, and any act of violence there is a direct insult to the faith and its sacredness. They also referenced the historical trauma experienced by the Sikh community during the 1984 military attack on the Golden Temple by the Indian government and stated that this recent act has once again caused mental pain for Sikhs around the world.

The SGPC officials urged Jathedar Sri Akal Takht Sahib to take swift action, requesting that the five Sikh high-ranking leaders deliberate on the matter and expel Narain Singh from the Sikh Panth. The SGPC leaders called for this action as a necessary step to restore dignity and honor to the Sikh faith and to address the damage caused by this incident.
