New Delhi: On December 7, former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal criticized Union Home Minister Amit Shah for the worsening law and order situation in the capital. His comments followed the shooting of 52-year-old businessman Sunil Jain by two assailants on bikes while returning home from a morning walk in Shahdara.

Kejriwal expressed his concerns on X, stating, “Amit Shah ji has ruined Delhi. He has turned Delhi into a jungle raj. People are living in fear everywhere. The BJP can no longer manage the law and order situation in Delhi. The residents must unite and raise their voices.”

Delhi Health Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also denounced the shooting, referring to Delhi as a “crime capital.”

Sunil Jain, a utensil trader, was attacked while riding his scooter after his morning walk near the Yamuna Sports Complex. Shahdara Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Gautam noted that police received a PCR call at 8:36 AM, reporting that 7-8 bullets were fired at Jain before the assailants fled. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage to identify the perpetrators, as the attack appeared premeditated given its violent nature.

This incident adds to rising concerns about public safety in Delhi, especially amid an increase in violent crimes. Another recent violent episode occurred in Govindpuri, where Sudheer was killed and two others injured in a dispute over a shared toilet’s cleanliness. Sudheer died from stab wounds, while his brother and friend are receiving treatment at AIIMS.

The surge in brazen daytime killings and gang-related violence, including a recent shooting by the Bambiha Gang in Rani Bagh, has heightened scrutiny of the effectiveness of law enforcement under the Union Home Ministry.
