This announcement followed a post by Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda, who highlighted several government initiatives in the fight against TB, including a 100-day campaign targeting high-burden districts and enhanced nutritional support through the Nikshay Poshan Yojana. “Union Health Minister Shri @JPNadda explains how India’s TB elimination efforts have seen transformative progress through nutritional support under the Nikshay Poshan Yojana,” PM Modi noted.
Additionally, Nadda is set to officially launch the ambitious 100-Day TB Elimination Campaign in Panchkula, Haryana, aimed at accelerating the fight against TB by improving case detection, minimizing diagnostic delays, and enhancing treatment results, particularly for vulnerable groups. This campaign will cover 347 districts across 33 states and Union Territories, forming a crucial part of India’s strategy to create a TB-free nation.
India has made substantial progress in reducing TB incidence and related deaths. Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Anupriya Patel reported in the Rajya Sabha that TB incidence has decreased by 17.7%, from 237 per 100,000 population in 2015 to 195 per 100,000 in 2023. He also highlighted a 21.4% reduction in TB deaths, dropping from 28 per lakh population in 2015 to 22 per lakh in 2023. Moreover, there has been an increase in TB notifications, with reported cases rising from 18.05 lakh in 2020 to 25.52 lakh in 2023.
