Kapurthala: A confrontation erupted between two inmate groups at Kapurthala Central Jail last night, resulting in four inmates sustaining injuries.

The injured individuals include Simranjeet Singh from Amritsar, and Vishal, Sunil, and Mukesh, who are from Lambra and Rama Mandi in Jalandhar. The incident occurred around 8 PM in barrack 3/3, where four men—two from each faction—attacked one another using sharp rods or nails taken from the jail’s grills. Officials indicated that the clash stemmed from an ongoing rivalry.

Simranjeet suffered critical injuries and has been transferred to Amritsar Medical College for treatment. Another inmate is receiving care at the Kapurthala Civil Hospital, while the other two were treated with first aid and returned to jail.

Kapurthala SP (Investigations) Sarabjit Rai reported that the individuals involved do not belong to any major gang but have a history of conflict, leading to the altercation. The injuries were caused by iron bars, and Simranjeet is currently stable.

An FIR has been filed against the four inmates at the Kotwali police station under Section 42 of the Prisons Act and several sections of the BNS Act.
