Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has also come into action mode regarding the elections of five municipal corporations and 44 municipal councils to be held on December 21 in Punjab. Screening committees have been formed by the party. Apart from MLAs and MPs, other leaders have also been assigned responsibilities by AAP in the screening committees.
At least seven to eight members have been kept in the committees. These include the first in-charge minister, zone vice-president, MP candidate, MLA, zone state secretary, Lok Sabha in-charge, district in-charge and chairman. These committees will handle the work from candidate selection to other formalities. However, this time the elections are very important for the party for five reasons.
This time the municipal elections are very important for AAP. Because at present the party is in power in the state. The party has MLAs in 95 out of 117 assembly constituencies. In such a situation, the party is preparing to win these elections and make their base more strong by winning the civic body polls too.
Municipal elections are also being held in urban areas. In such a situation, this time there will not be a direct contest with Congress. Due to being an urban area, BJP is also considered to have a stronghold in this area. In many municipal corporations and city councils, BJP has had councilors and even mayors in the past.
These elections are being held for the first time after Aman Arora became the head. He is directly leading this election. Earlier, he went to many districts and held meetings with the leaders. Along with this, he had made a strategy for making the elections.
