New Delhi: On December 9, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) during his visit to Panipat, Haryana. This initiative aims to empower and train women aged 18-70 who have completed Class 10, with a target of training one lakh women across the country, including 8,000 from Haryana, to become LIC agents.
Participants in the program will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 7,000 during the first year, Rs 6,000 in the second year, and Rs 5,000 in the third year, while promoting financial literacy and awareness about insurance. The program’s primary goal is to create job opportunities and provide financial support for rural women.
This event is particularly significant as PM Modi previously launched the ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign in Panipat in 2015 aimed at improving the status of girl children and addressing the gender imbalance in the region.
Additionally, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone for Maharana Pratap Horticultural University’s main campus in Karnal. The event is expected to draw thousands of women from across Haryana, with Panipat decorated with over 5,000 welcoming hoardings. Important attendees will include Haryana Governor Bandaru Dattatreya, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, among other officials from the central and state governments.
The ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao’ campaign, launched on January 22, 2015, aims to combat gender bias and improve the welfare services for girls, starting with an initial funding of Rs 100 crore. This new initiative aligns with the government’s vision of empowering women towards a developed India (Viksit Bharat).
