Punjab Civic Body Polls: First day of filing nominations today

December 14 will be the last day for the withdrawal of nominations.

Chandigarh: Municipal Corporation elections have been announced in Punjab. Now voting will be held on December 21. Counting will be done in the evening after voting on the same day. The dates of elections to 5 Municipal Corporations and 43 Municipal Councils of the state have been announced. The process of filing nominations will start today (December 9) and December 12 will be the last date for filing nominations. The scrutiny of nominations will be done on December 13. December 14 will be the last day for the withdrawal of nominations.

Along with the announcement of the dates of the Municipal Corporation elections, the election code of conduct has also come into effect. Let us tell you that the notification to hold Municipal Corporation elections in the last week of December was issued by the Principal Secretary of the Local Government Department a long time ago, but the voting time has not been issued yet. Now the elections have been announced.

In Punjab there are 37,32,636 registered voters out of the total voters, including 19,55,888 males, 17,76,544 females, and 204 others, who are under revision based on special revision made till 7th December 2024. EVMs will be used for voting.

Necessary EVMs have been arranged for the elections. Voting will be held on 21.12.2024 from 7.00 am to 04.00 pm through EVMs. After the completion of the voting process, the counting of votes will be done at the polling station on the same day. Voting will be conducted for 381 wards of Municipal Corporations and 598 wards of Municipal Councils/Nagar Panchayats.
