Bhopal: A tragic incident of alleged medical negligence has occurred in Sidhi district, Madhya Pradesh, where a pregnant woman was reportedly denied admission to a government hospital despite her critical condition. She gave birth to her baby outside the hospital on a stretcher, but the newborn girl tragically passed away just 30 minutes later.

The distressing event took place late Sunday night at the Sidhi district hospital. The woman, initially admitted to a primary healthcare center in Majhauli, about 50 km away, was referred to the district hospital due to deteriorating health.

Upon arriving at the Sidhi district hospital on Sunday evening, her condition worsened, leading medical staff to refer her to the Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital (SGMH) in Rewa, approximately 70 km away. However, while her family was preparing for the transfer, she experienced severe labor pains. Despite her urgent need for care, she remained on a stretcher outside the hospital, where relatives fashioned a makeshift cover from sarees for her delivery. Sadly, the baby girl died soon after birth.

Following this incident, her family protested outside the hospital, accusing the staff of gross negligence. Nikhil Kumar, a relative, stated that the woman urgently needed care but was refused admittance, with hospital staff claiming she had been discharged and could not be readmitted. He also alleged that security personnel assaulted them when they sought help.

In light of the public outcry, Sidhi District Collector Swarochish Somavanshi has ordered an investigation into the matter, assuring that appropriate actions will be taken based on the findings. This incident has raised significant concerns regarding the state of healthcare facilities in Madhya Pradesh.
