Seoul: South Korean police announced on Monday that they are considering a travel ban on President Yoon Suk Yeol to investigate allegations related to his recent brief declaration of martial law.
Additionally, police indicated that questioning Yoon in person is still a possibility. Senior police official Woo Jong-soo stated during a briefing that “there are no human or physical restrictions to the subject of investigation,” according to Yonhap news agency.
Yoon declared martial law last Tuesday, which involved the deployment of special forces troops in Seoul, resulting in significant political turmoil in South Korea and raising concerns among its diplomatic allies and neighboring countries.
On Saturday, he successfully sidestepped an impeachment effort by the opposition, as most lawmakers from his ruling party abstained from voting. However, opposition parties have stated their intention to propose a new impeachment motion against him within this week.
