Jagdalpur: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday lauded the Chhattisgarh government’s robust actions in fighting Maoism in the state.
Speaking at a gathering in Jagdalpur, Shah highlighted the effective collaboration between the state government and central agencies in addressing this issue.
During his visit, he engaged with surrendered Maoists and their families, providing them with reassurance and support. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to rehabilitating those affected by violence and called for collective efforts to eliminate Maoism from the region.
“The central government, alongside the Chhattisgarh government, will ensure comprehensive support for families impacted by Maoism. I urge everyone to unite in the ongoing campaigns by both governments to eradicate this menace,” he stated.
Shah pointed out the progress made over the past year, noting a reduction in Maoist activities, including the neutralization of several key figures. “Under the Chhattisgarh government’s leadership, commendable actions have been taken with a well-planned strategy. I am confident that we will completely eradicate Maoism from the country by March 31, 2026,” he asserted.
He specifically commended Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma, as well as the relentless efforts of the state police and security forces. “The combined efforts of the Chhattisgarh government, police, and security agencies have established a solid foundation for this campaign. I assure you that achieving a Maoism-free state is within our reach by the set deadline,” he reiterated.
Shah recalled that when Prime Minister Narendra Modi assigned him the Home Ministry in 2019, he believed that individuals involved in armed movements should be given the opportunity to surrender and lead peaceful lives. “Since then, 20 peace accords have been signed in the northeast and 9,000 militants have surrendered,” he said.
He also mentioned that PM Modi approved 15,000 homes for surrendered Maoists under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, and the National Dairy Development Board would provide at least one cow or buffalo to these families, enabling them to earn between Rs 15,000 and Rs 20,000 per month.
“Today in Jagdalpur, I met people affected by Maoism and those who have surrendered their weapons to join the mainstream. Maoism has long deprived many of their fundamental rights and has caused immense suffering. Those who instill fear and violence in the youth are the greatest enemies of society. Our government, under Modiji’s leadership, is committed to empowering and developing the lives of those affected by Maoism and the youth who have renounced violence,” Shah expressed on his X handle.
