Congress Delegation led by Partap Bajwa meets state election commissioner

In the Patiala Municipal Corporation elections, only 33 Congress candidates were able to file nominations whereas in the elections held five years ago, Congress had councilors on 60 seats

Just before the Municipal Corporation and Municipal Council elections to be held on December 21 in Punjab, a Congress delegation led by CLP leader Pratap Singh Bajwa met State Election Commissioner Raj Kumar Chaudhary.

He has accused the ruling Aam Aadmi Party of hooliganism in the elections. He said that the police is working at the behest of the government. His candidates were beaten up. They were not even allowed to file nominations.

In the Patiala Municipal Corporation elections, only 33 Congress candidates were able to file nominations whereas in the elections held five years ago, Congress had councilors on 60 seats. He said that he had gone to the High Court regarding this matter. Now he will also go to the Supreme Court regarding this matter.

Talking to the media, Bajwa said that Congress candidates were not allowed to fill out the form. Candidates’ pamphlets were torn. The candidate’s father was beaten up outside the nomination office. He said that 60-60 candidates had won in the elections held in Patiala Municipal Corporation five years ago, but this time Congress is not able to contest elections everywhere.

Only 33 candidates are contesting the elections. The nomination papers of 27 have been canceled. This is very cheap politics. He said that he will ensure that his candidates get their rights.
