Himachal: In Himachal Pradesh, due to a prolonged dry spell, forest fires have started in the Joginder nagar forest division even during the winter season. With December coming to an end and no rainfall, incidents of wildfires have led to the destruction of precious forest resources.
Despite numerous efforts by the forest department to protect the forests, the continuous occurrence of fires remains a matter of concern. On Wednesday afternoon, a severe fire broke out in the government forest (DPF Jimijma) near the Dulk post office in the Joginder nagar sub-division, resulting in approximately 2 hectares of forest being reduced to ashes.
Upon receiving information about the incident, teams from the forest department and the Jogindernagar fire station quickly arrived on the scene and brought the fire under control. Forest Division Officer Kamal Bharti reported that timely action saved assets worth approximately 5 lakh rupees. He stated that some antisocial elements continue to set the forests ablaze for personal gain, causing significant harm to invaluable resources.
Kamal Bharti emphasized that cooperation from everyone is essential to prevent incidents of arson in the forests. The forest department is taking action against those causing damage to the forests as per regulations. A detailed report is being prepared on the forest resources lost to the fire.
Due to these fires, many wildlife species are becoming victims as well. However, swift action from the fire department has successfully contained the fires, preventing substantial losses to forest resources.
