Fatehgarh Sahib: A new example of government negligence has emerged in the district’s Water Supply and Sanitation Department. During the preparations for the Shaheedi Sabha, a public toilet was opened, only to reveal a skeleton inside. The body had been consumed by termites. The public toilet blocks, which cost around 39-39 lakh each to build, have turned into burial grounds due to departmental negligence. Now, the department is attempting to evade responsibility and fabricating stories.

Last year, 17 toilet blocks were built at a cost of ₹6.64 crore to accommodate the large crowd expected at the Shaheedi Sabha. The Water Supply and Sanitation Department was responsible for the operation and maintenance of these toilets.

While preparing for the event, the department opened the public toilets for cleaning, and on December 10, one of the toilet blocks near Gurudwara Shri Jyoti Swaroop Sahib revealed a body. The body had decomposed into a skeleton due to termite infestation.

The department informed the police, and after completing the formalities, the skeleton was discreetly removed and stored in the civil hospital’s mortuary. After initial post-mortem, the skeleton was sent for forensic examination to the SFSL Kharar.

As the body had been consumed by termites, there was no identification left. A bag was found near the skeleton, but there were no items that could help identify the person. ASI Lakhbir Singh from Fatehgarh Sahib Police Station, who is investigating the case, mentioned that there was nothing found with the body to help identify it.

Meanwhile, Dr. KD Singh, SMO, confirmed that after an initial examination, the body was sent for forensic investigation. He mentioned that the body could be several months old, and further details would be available after the report.
