Himachal Pradesh: Politics in Himachal Pradesh has heated up over the “chicken incident.” An FIR has been registered against six people, including Dharamsala MLA Sudhir Sharma and some media personnel. In protest, the opposition, led by Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur, staged a demonstration in the Tapovan Assembly complex on Thursday. Jairam Thakur and other BJP legislators carried posters with images of chickens and raised slogans like “Sukhvinder Bhaiya, Sukhvinder Bhaiya, who ate the wild chicken?”

The opposition has criticized the FIR against BJP legislators and the media, calling it shameful. They have also demanded an investigation under the Wildlife Protection Act.

Meanwhile, the second day of the Assembly session also saw no question hour.

Speaking to the media in the Assembly complex, Jairam Thakur stated that during the Chief Minister’s visit to Kuppvi, the dinner menu mentioned wild chicken at position 12. He claimed that the CM himself referenced the wild chicken during the dinner. Jairam added that wild chicken is found in forests, and it is surprising that an FIR has been filed against the media and legislators for sharing the CM’s dinner video on social media. He called it unfortunate to file an FIR against those revealing the truth.

The wild chicken incident has led to a complaint filed by Suman Chauhan, the head of Kulga Panchayat in Kuppvi, and Neetu Parmar. They claimed that a fake menu was shared on social media, print media, and personal handles, which harmed the region’s traditional food and culture. They requested action against those spreading this misinformation. The police have filed a case under sections 353 and 356 of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint.

It is notable that on December 13, Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu visited the Kuppvi region and stayed in Tikkar village. He had dinner at a Congress worker’s home, and the menu, which included “wild chicken,” went viral on social media. The CM was even seen referring to serving chicken, though he later denied eating meat. This led to questions about the inclusion of wild chicken on the menu. DSP Chopal Sushant Sharma has confirmed the registration of the case. MLA Sudhir Sharma has claimed that the government is filing FIRs out of fear and that there should be an investigation into how many chickens were actually slaughtered. He pointed out that the CM’s menu did mention chicken.
