Kolkata: The Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday in West Bengal said that the country’s international borders with Nepal were always peaceful and not a cause of concern because of the presence of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) jawans.
Addressing soldiers at SSB’s frontier headquarters at Siliguri in Darjeeling district of West Bengal on 61st rising day of SSB shah said that India’s 2450 km’s of international border with Nepal and Bhutan which is open was not cause of concern for government credited SSB soldiers deployed in the region for the peace.
He also said that the manner in which SSB is handling cross-border crimes like narcotics, arms, wildlife and human trafficking and other anti-national activities is highly commendable.
He also complimented the role of SSB in tackling the menace of Left-wing extremism (LWE) in different eastern Indian states. “SSB personnel played a significant role in combating and reducing Maoist menace in states like Bihar and Jharkhand. SSB’s role in combating LWE even in Chhattisgarh is also quite commendable.”
Shah also said that the SSB foiled several attempts of illegal infiltration and illegal encroachment in the areas without disturbing peace and relations with Nepal. “SSB has been able to evict 1,100 illegal encroachments in ‘no man’s land’ with zero tolerance but without disturbing the international peace relations,” Shah said.
“The SSB personnels deputed in at the border also played a significant role in different social welfare activities like conducting de-addiction drives among youths.”
