Snowfall throws normal life out of gear; traffic disrupted on 173 roads, 3 National Highways

The administration has directed the concerned departments to restore the roads and restart the power supply.

Shimla: The snowfall in Himachal Pradesh yesterday has badly affected life. Traffic has been disrupted on 173 roads in the state, including three national highways.

Due to snowfall, not only has the movement on the roads stopped but the power supply has also come to a halt. 683 power transformers are closed across the state, due to which power supply has been disrupted in many areas.

Intermittent snowfall is occurring in other high-altitude areas including Kufri, Narkanda, Kinnaur, and Lahaul-Spiti of Shimla. Roads of many districts have been blocked due to snowfall, causing huge problems in traffic.

Traffic is disrupted on the maximum 89 roads in Shimla district. These include roads in the upper areas of the district. 44 roads are closed in Kinnaur, 25 in Mandi, six in Kangra, four in Kullu, two in Lahaul Spiti, and one in Chamba. Two national highways in Kullu and one in Lahaul-Spiti are closed due to snowfall. Due to the rain in Una district, traffic on three roads has come to a halt.

The administration has directed the concerned departments to restore the roads and restart the power supply. However, relief work is being hampered due to bad weather.

Due to bad weather in Himachal, life is in danger. Local residents and tourists have been advised to take precautions keeping in mind the weather conditions. Let us tell you that hundreds of tourists were stuck due to a jam in the Atal Tunnel last night. 800 tourists were evacuated by the police administration and the rescue is still going on.
