Bhopal: A violent clash between two neighboring communities in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, left at least six people injured on Tuesday. The altercation arose over reckless driving near the Galla Mandi area, under the jurisdiction of the Jahangirabad police station, where members of the Sikh and Muslim communities began pelting stones and attacking one another with sticks.
Local residents captured videos of the violence from their homes, showing individuals wielding swords and sticks while others, including women, appeared to encourage the fighting.
The situation was brought under control after multiple police teams arrived and conducted a flag march to reassure the community. During the clash, six people sustained injuries.
Police reported that both communities share a common route, leading to long-standing disputes. The immediate conflict was sparked by an incident on Sunday when a local resident named Faiz drove recklessly through the area, resulting in a confrontation with the predominant Sikh residents. Faiz allegedly grabbed a knife from a vegetable vendor and assaulted an individual during the altercation.
Subsequently, an FIR was filed at the Jahangirabad police station, leading to Faiz’s arrest along with three others on Monday. Two others involved remain at large, and police are actively searching for them.
The situation escalated on Tuesday morning when members of the Sikh community saw one of the absconding suspects and pursued him, prompting another violent confrontation that drew more participants from both sides.
A senior police official confirmed that Tuesday’s events resulted in another round of physical confrontation involving sticks and swords. Heavy police presence was deployed at the scene, and both communities were called in for mediation efforts.
While tensions continue in the area, police have made significant deployments, and gatherings of residents from the Sikh community at the Gurudwara were dispersed as a precaution.
DCP Priyanka Shukla stated, “Several police teams are monitoring the situation at key entry and exit points. We will use CCTV footage to identify those involved in the stone-pelting and other violent actions and take appropriate measures.”
