He expressed his nostalgia in the caption, saying, “Made so many memories on this one. Some lifelong friendships, some unforgettable times, not tagging anyone cos everyone from this team is tagged in my heart. 3 years to ‘83’.”

Directed by Kabir Khan, ‘83’ chronicles the story of India’s cricket team and their historic victory in the 1983 World Cup against the formidable West Indies, led by Kapil Dev. Notably, Neena Gupta, who appears in the film, had a relationship with West Indies cricket legend Viv Richards, who played in the 1983 finals under captain Sir Clive Lloyd. In that match, Richards scored 33 runs off 28 balls before being caught by Kapil Dev, though he struggled with the ball, conceding 8 runs in his only over.

Gupta and Richards began dating in the late 1980s and have a daughter, Masaba Gupta, a prominent designer and actress known for her Netflix series ‘Masaba Masaba.’

Originally set for an April 2020 release, ‘83’ faced multiple delays due to casting, pre-production issues, and the Covid-19 pandemic, ultimately premiering at the Red Sea International Film Festival on December 15, 2021, and hitting theaters worldwide on December 24, 2021, in various languages. Despite the anticipation, the film did not perform well at the box office.
