Punjab and Chandigarh are experiencing severe cold at this time. The weather in the area has become cold due to snowfall in Himachal. Fog is also seen in many areas in the morning and evening. The Meteorological Department has issued a cold wave and fog alert in 15 districts of Punjab today.
However, the temperature of the state has increased by 4.7 degrees in the last 24 hours. It has now reached close to normal. Hoshiarpur has recorded the highest temperature of 21.6 degrees. Similarly, Chandigarh’s temperature has been recorded at 20.1 degrees. The temperature has increased by 6.4 degrees. At the same time, Gurdaspur has recorded the lowest temperature of 4.6 degrees.
The Meteorological Department has today issued a cold wave and fog alert in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda and Ludhiana. However, there is a possibility of rain in some places from December 26 to December 28. Western disturbance is likely to become active at that time. There is also a possibility of hailstorms and thunderstorms during this period.
Holidays have been declared in schools of Punjab due to cold. All schools will remain closed till December 31. Orders have been issued by the Education Department in this regard. At the same time, there will be holidays in Chandigarh schools from December 26 to January 7. However, these may increase in future and there may be changes in school timings etc.
