Mumbai: Actor Ronit Ashra has shared insights about his latest project, “Swipe Crime,” which he views as a chance to explore the intricacies and challenges of the digital era.

Ashra emphasized the influence of technology and social media on contemporary relationships and society. In the series, where he portrays Nikhil Saxena, he delves into the darker aspects of online interactions, aiming to provide viewers with a deeper awareness of the risks associated with digital platforms.

Regarding the show, Ronit remarked, “When I first saw the title Swipe Crime after the updates, it felt like the final piece of a puzzle.” He elaborated, “The term ‘Crime’ suggests a thriller, while the swipe feature links it to dating apps. However, the series encompasses much more; it reflects the filtered and unfiltered realities of social media.”

Ronit expressed a strong personal connection to the themes presented in the show. “In this age of DMs and quick matches, social media can connect people, but it also has a darker side. We’re tackling issues like catfishing and the pressure to constantly create content. I hope this series raises awareness about these threats,” he said.

Discussing his character, he noted, “Nikhil’s perfectionism, anxiety over assignments, and moments of anger are traits that many will relate to. He fears authority yet stands firm in his beliefs. I’ve felt similar emotions, which made the role particularly meaningful for me. Working on this show has been a transformative journey.”

Ronit also acknowledged social media’s role in building his confidence and creating opportunities as an artist. “However, I’ve witnessed its dangers firsthand, such as when my TikTok account was hacked in 10th grade. It truly is a double-edged sword,” he added.

“Swipe Crime,” directed by Harsh Mainra, delves into the complexities of college life while intertwining it with a sinister digital scam. The series features a cast that includes Malvika Raj, Sanyam Sharma, Abhishek Singh Rajput, Faisal Malik, and Rishab Chadha, among others. It premiered on Amazon MX Player on December 20.
