Khanauri: The Punjab government could not get farmer leader Jagjit Dallewal, who has been on fast for 36 days at Khanauri border, admitted to the hospital. 70-year-old Dallewal is also a cancer patient. In the hearing on December 28, the Supreme Court had given time till December 31 to the Punjab government.
This deadline was given by the court in the hearing of the contempt petition. The court’s previous order to admit Dallewal to the hospital was not implemented. The court had also said that the matter of contempt case against the Chief Secretary and DGP of Punjab will also be heard in this hearing. In such a situation, the problems of both the officers may increase.
Recently, after the hearing in the Supreme Court, Dallewal had said that the Supreme Court is not giving any instructions to the central government and an attempt is being made to deliberately limit this issue to the state government, while our demands are from the central government.
After the court order, the Punjab Police tried hard to persuade the farmers and Dallewal. On 29 and 30 December, senior officers of Patiala police were sent along with retired ADGP Jaskaran Singh. They also talked to the farmer leaders and Dallewal but they did not agree. On Sunday night, the police had also made preparations but after the farmers got a hint, no action was taken to take him forcibly.
In the hearing held on 7 December, the Punjab government told the Supreme Court that Dallewal should be admitted to the hospital in view of his condition. On this, the Supreme Court said that emotions are attached to him. The state should do something. He is a popular personality. There can be no laxity in this. The Punjab government will have to handle the situation.
