Bhopal: The Madhya Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will hold a meeting on Thursday to achieve consensus on candidates for the district head (zila adhyaksh) positions.
BJP workers and potential candidates have gathered in Bhopal, where they’ll participate in an extensive meeting at the party headquarters. The discussions will include party in-charge for Madhya Pradesh, Mahendra Singh, state unit chief V.D. Sharma, and other organizational leaders.
Each district has four to five candidates, and during the meeting, BJP leaders aim to interact with these potential candidates to agree on a single nominee for each district.
Multiple rounds of discussions previously took place at the district level, leading to three to four names being suggested based on caste considerations.
Post-meeting, Mahendra Singh will submit the final candidate list to the Central leadership for approval. The BJP had aimed to conclude the selection process for zila adhyakshs by the end of December, but delays occurred due to a lack of consensus among various factions and local party workers.
The Central leadership instructed the state unit to resolve the issue through internal agreement. As part of its ongoing organizational restructuring, the BJP has successfully completed elections for its multi-tier ‘Booth’ and ‘Mandal’ committees, with a typical booth committee comprising 12 members, including roles like ‘WhatsApp Pramukh’ and ‘Maan Ki Baat Pramukh.’
