Patna: In light of the ongoing protests regarding the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC), Union Minister and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) Chief Chirag Paswan met with Governor Arif Mohammad Khan on Friday, pledging justice for examination candidates.
After the meeting, Paswan told reporters that the NDA government in Bihar, led by Nitish Kumar, is dedicated to ensuring fairness for the candidates and is open to suggestions for resolving the issues.
The BPSC exam, held on December 13 at 912 centers across the state, faced allegations of malpractice, particularly concerning irregularities at the Bapu Centre in Kumhrar, Patna. In response, the BPSC canceled the exam at that center and conducted a re-examination on January 4.
However, protesting candidates are demanding the cancellation of the exam across all centers, citing systemic flaws. A group of candidates has filed a petition in the Patna High Court, with the next hearing set for January 15.
Earlier, Patna Police faced backlash after resorting to lathi-charges against the protesting candidates, heightening tensions and public outrage.
Political figures from various parties, including RJD, Jan Suraaj Party, CPI-ML, and independent MLA Rajesh Ranjan (Pappu Yadav), have voiced their support for the candidates. Prashant Kishor, founder of the Jan Suraaj Party, has been on a hunger strike since January 2 and was recently hospitalized at Medanta due to health issues. His party has also filed a petition in the High Court seeking the exam’s cancellation.
The situation has escalated into a significant political issue, with both ruling and opposition parties clashing over the government’s response. The outcomes of the January 15 High Court hearing and subsequent government actions will be crucial in addressing the candidates’ concerns and restoring trust in the examination process.
